In a heartfelt demonstration of community support, AK Certified Roofing, in partnership with Owens Corning and Purple Heart Homes, recently provided two Palm Coast widows of U.S. Air Force veterans with new roofs at no cost.
Honoring Alton Holley’s Legacy
On December 9, 2024, Janie Holley, widow of veteran Alton Holley, received a much-needed roof replacement. This act of kindness, part of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, honors the sacrifices made by veterans and their families. Janie, reflecting on her late husband’s military service, shared both fond memories and the challenges he faced after enlisting at a young age. Overcome with emotion, she expressed profound gratitude for the unexpected blessing, calling it a “true honor.”
A Lifeline for Sandra Holley
The very next day, December 10, Sandra Holley, widow of Vietnam veteran Alton Holley, also received a free roof installation. Sandra, who has faced financial hardships since her husband’s passing, called the gift a miracle she could never afford on her own. Her husband, who served from 1962 to 1966, carried the burden of his Vietnam experience, including exposure to Agent Orange, which affected his health in later years. Sandra shared how their love story began in 1999 at a karaoke bar and reflected on the struggles and joys of their life together.
AK Certified Roofing’s owner, Andrew DiGaetano, underscored the company’s commitment to giving back to those who have served. As their first initiative through the Roof Deployment Project, he pledged to continue supporting veterans annually, finding deserving recipients through social media and local veterans’ organizations.
Both projects highlight the power of community partnerships and compassion, reminding us of the importance of honoring those who have sacrificed for our country.
