My Safe Florida Home Grants for Your Roof
The state pays for a wind mitigation inspection and may match eligible hurricane upgrades with up to $10,000 in state funding: $2 from the state for each $1 you contribute. The matching grant is reimbursement after approved work is completed.

Does your home qualify?
For a grant, the current requirements include:
- A site-built, owner-occupied single-family home on its own parcel, with a homestead exemption. Eligible attached homes may be included under the current state rules.
- Insured dwelling value of $700,000 or less and a home built before January 1, 2008.
- A currently effective homeowners insurance policy.
- Low- or moderate-income eligibility under the program's household-income rules.
- An initial program inspection within 24 months before the grant application, with recommended eligible improvements.
You also agree to a final program inspection and to provide the required insurer information. Check eligibility on the official program website; see the current eligibility law.
The roofing rule
A new roof alone does not qualify.
Roof covering replacement can qualify when it is necessary to complete recommended roof-deck attachment, roof-to-wall connection or secondary water resistance improvements. The entire pitched roof, entire flat roof, or both must be replaced for the qualifying scope; patches and partial roof repairs are not eligible.

Apply through the state
Start at MySafeFLHome.com. Create your account, complete the prioritization questionnaire and follow the portal's inspection application steps.
Meet the assigned inspector
After approval, the program assigns an inspector to visit your home. AK does not assign or perform this state inspection.
Read your report
Review the recommended improvements in your portal. Those recommendations guide the work you ask contractors to price.
Get licensed contractor bids
Ask contractors to bid the recommended upgrades. The program suggests getting multiple quotes.
Apply for the grant
Follow the grant application and contractor confirmation steps in your portal. Provide your current policy declarations and selected contractor's license information.
Wait for approval, then build
Begin work only after official grant approval. Complete construction and request the Final Inspection within 18 months of grant approval, then follow the draw request instructions.

Bring the report. We'll bid the recommended upgrades.

Questions before you plan
Clear answers about the roof grant
Will the program pay for my entire roof?
A standalone replacement does not qualify. Necessary roof covering costs can be included with the recommended attachment or secondary water resistance upgrades. The maximum state contribution is $10,000; your project may cost more.
Can I start work while my application is pending?
No. Wait for the official grant approval before construction begins. Work completed before approval is not eligible for reimbursement.
How long do I have to finish the work?
The program requires you to complete construction and request the Final Inspection within 18 months of grant approval. If that deadline is missed, the program can treat the application as abandoned.
Can I choose AK as my contractor?
You choose your licensed contractor. The program no longer keeps a list of authorized contractors, so you can pick any Florida-licensed contractor. The program checks the selected contractor's license. Send us the report so we can price the recommended roof work.
Do I have to contribute $5,000?
For the full $10,000 matching grant, the $2-to-$1 ratio requires a $5,000 homeowner match. Smaller eligible projects receive a proportionate match. Eligible low-income applicants may receive up to $10,000 without a matching contribution.
Who arranges the program inspections?
The program assigns its inspector after your inspection application is approved. After the work, you request the final inspection through your program account.
What should I send AK?
Send your program inspection report through our contact page, or call the office to arrange delivery. We use the recommended upgrades to prepare your written scope and bid.
AK Certified Roofing is your roofing contractor, not the My Safe Florida Home program or its assigned inspector. The state determines eligibility, grant approval, funding and reimbursement. AK does not decide those outcomes.
